Course Description

Interlaken

Maharishi at Humboldt, 1971

In this 12-lesson course, we will explore many facets of the fourth of the six Upangas of the Vedic literature, entitled Yoga Darshana, in the light of Maharishi’s lectures and commentaries. We will find that Yoga, even though commonly understood as collections of physical postures and breathing exercises, is a comprehensive science and technology of consciousness and one of the six systems of Indian philosophy. Yoga thus explores the nature, range, and application of the most fundamental level of life — the eternal, unbounded ocean of pure consciousness, known in the ancient Vedic tradition as the state of Yoga.

This course will include lectures by Maharishi on a variety of topics in Yoga, including:

  • Ashtanga Yoga — the eight limbs of Yoga
  • Maharishi’s analysis of the four fundamental branches of Yoga practice:
    • Hatha Yoga
    • Mantra Yoga
    • Laya Yoga
    • Raja Yoga
  • The inner structure of the state of Yoga, and the dynamics through which it expresses itself as the diversity of creation
  • Rare discussions by Maharishi on Yoga philosophy that describe in greater depth the nature of Yoga and how the unfoldment of this unified state of peace and harmony leads to the ultimate reality of life in Brahman Consciousness, the supreme level of Yoga.

This rare series from Maharishi further reveals how Maharshi Patanjali, the Seer of Yoga Darshana, gained his own enlightenment through his discovery and exploration of the eight-fold structure of the state of Yoga.

We hope you will join us for this rare course on Maharishi’s profound analysis of Yoga. Each 1.5 hour lesson contains a unique and precious lecture by Maharishi followed by discussion and questions.
